Getting a Library Card:
Library cards are free to people if you live, own property or work in the City of Kings Mountain or Cleveland County. Out of county or state obtain a library card for a small annual fee. You may use any library in the county.  As an added benefit, residents of the City of Kings Mountain are eligible for a Gaston County Public Library card; ask for more information at any Gaston County library.

A library card will be issued upon verification of current name and residential address.  Parents or guardians may show their identification in lieu of identification for children.  Every three years please verify your address and telephone number to maintain accurate records.

A card holder is responsible for all materials checked out on his or her library car.   Parents are responsible for materials checked out by their children. 

Renewals:
Most materials circulate for three weeks, videos/DVD’s one week.
You may renew library material if there are no holds pending and you have not exceeded the maximum number of renewals.  You may renew:

• Over the telephone with the assistance of library staff.
• With the assistance of library staff at the service desk.
• At home using this website or www.ccml.org web site.

Holds:
Terms like reserve, hold, and request have the same meaning in the library.  All of these terms mean that your name is placed on a waiting list for library material.  You may place a hold:

• Over the telephone with the assistance of library staff
• With the assistance of library staff at the service desk
• Online through the library online catalog

Notification When Holds are Available:
You will receive notice by phone or e-mail, whichever you have requested.
The library will hold the item at the service desk for five business days
If you no longer need the item, please inform the library as soon as possible and the next person in line will be notified of item availability.

Picking Up a Hold Item:
In order to protect your privacy, the library will release the requested materials only to you. If you want someone else to pick up library material, give the person your library card.  If another person has your card in their possession, the library will assume you have consented to the transaction and will release the material to that person.

Notices

What happens when your items are…
Due in 3 days:
A courtesy reminder notice email is attempted.
7 days past due:
A courtesy reminder notice is mailed to your home or email notification is attempted.
21 days past due:
A final notice is mailed to your home or email notification is attempted.

Bills

45 Days past due:
Your borrowing privileges are suspended and a bill is mailed.  Late fees as well as the cost of materials are charged to you.
60 days Uncollected Bills:
The account is referred to Unique Management Services. A $10 fee is applied to bills greater than $25 and $5 fee applied to bills less than $25.
