How to Acquire a Card
Library cards are free if you live, own property or work in the City of Kings Mountain, Gaston or Cleveland County. To obtain an out of county or state library card there is a $25 annual fee. Mauney Memorial Library cards may be used in any NC Cardinal library for physical materials. Below is a map of libraries your Mauney Memorial Library card will be accepted at. A library card will be issued upon verification of your photo identification with current mailing address. Parents or guardians may show their identification in lieu of identification for children. Students in the Cleveland County School system may use their student (lunch) number as their library card. On occasion, the library will verify address, telephone number and email of the library card account to ensure accurate records.
As both Mauney Memorial Library and the Cleveland County Library System (Shelby, Spangler) are in the NC Cardinal State library consortium, that utilizes a shared database, patrons need only one card to have equal access to physical materials.
Responsibilities
A card holder is responsible for all materials checked out on his or her library card. Parents are responsible for materials checked out by their children. A card must be presented for checkout.
Circulation
Most materials circulate for three weeks, DVD’s one week. New books circulate for two weeks.
Items will automatically renew if there are no requests on the specific title and the item has not exceeded the maximum number of renewals.
